HeinOnline Database Guide Update

HeinOnlineis an image-based collection of full text legal periodicals. It covers from the inception of each publication. It plans to expand its coverage to include all indexed legal periodicals from their first issue to the present.

It has recently offered more search options to include the Basic Search and the Advanced Search to the Whole Collection. It also provides browse function to browse collections by Collection Name, for example Law Journal Library, Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals (IFLP), and by Collection Type, for example Case Law, Current Content Journals.

Basic Law Bulletin Issue No. 15 (December 2013)

The Basic Law Bulletin Issue No. 15 (December 2013) has been published online at the Department of Justice’s website. The Basic Law Bulletin is an annual publication which is jointly published by the Department of Justice, the Civil Service Bureau and the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau. This publication contains recent update, concepts and provisions of the Basic Law.

The content of the Issue No. 15 consists of the review on “the principle of proportionally and the concept of margin of appreciation in human rights law”, the judgment update, the Bills update etc.

Topical Laws in Westlaw China

The Chinese legal database Westlaw China has recently added four Topical Law modules under its Topical Laws Section. These four Topical Law modules provide recent legal news, laws & regulations, cases and articles as well as commonly used laws and regulations on the following four topics:

•         Intellectual Property
•         Foreign Investment
•         Financial Law
•        Tax Law

These four Topical Law modules are available in both English and Chinese. Westlaw China provides selected English translations of the original Chinese materials in its English version.
