Library Training Sessions for Term 2 2010/11

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library is pleased to offer the following training sessions for this semester. For registration, please send email to lrc@lib.cuhk.edu.hk or by phone at 3529 5984 or in person to sign up at the counter of the Legal Resources Centre (LRC). Please provide your name, student ID and the training session(s) for registration. Training sessions will be grouped together if low enrolment rate.

New Westlaw interface

Westlaw has released their new interface which provides enhanced searchability  and added features such as Hong Kong  case digests (case summaries) and a case analysis service for HK cases which replaces their 'Keycite' system. There will be training session offered as part of e-resources week initially (http://eweek.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/feb16.html), and the training sessions for postgraduate students will be announced later.

 

In the meantime you will notice the old Westlaw links ('Westlaw International' and 'Hong Kong Current Awareness') alongside the new links called 'Westlaw HK' and 'Westlaw HK. Current Awareness' at the law library databases page. The old links will be removed once students and staff have had the opportunity to become more familiar with the new products.

Legal Resources Centre (LRC) will be closed from Feb 2 to 8, 2011

Due to Chinese New Year Holidays and relocation to a new location,  the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) will be closed from Feb 2 (Wednesday) to Feb 8, 2011 (Tuesday). It will re-open on Feb 9 (Wednesday)  in  a new location  on  the same floor of the Graduate Law Centre (2/F, the Bank of America Tower, Central).

Subject Guides to Resources for Term Two 2010/11

The library has uploaded "subject guides to resources" for Term Two 2010/11 on its website.  These guides include major resources, textbooks, law reports, journals etc. on these subjects to assist your legal research for these. Lexis.com Enhancements

Lexis.com has created two new features. Please refer to the attached screens for more information on these two new feautures.

       1. Add Hong Kong Lawyer URL in the home page of the database Lexis.com
     2. Created Commonwealth Journal under Journals tab

eResources Week 2011

The University Library System is please to announce the launch of eResources Week 2011 to promote the use of academic research resources. Programmes include an online quiz, games, database workshops and vendor exhibits.


Prizes of the online quiz include a Fujitsu notebook computer, iPads, iPod Touches and more. All participants of the online quiz will automatically enter our LUCKY DRAW to win an iPad or iPod Touch. Details are as follows:

Hong Kong’s War Crimes Trials Collection (‘HKWCT Collection’)

The HKWCT Collection is part of a project funded by the Hong Kong SAR government’s Research Grants Council. The Collection’s website provides details of, and access to, the case files of 46 trials involving 123 persons who were tried in Hong Kong for war crimes committed during the Second World War. Due to restrictions imposed by the copyright holder, The National Archives, it is only possible for persons based at one of the universities in Hong Kong to have full access to the case files. However, other documents are available to everyone.

Lexis.com Enhancement on International Law Search Interface

New Resource for African Human Rights Case Law

African Human Rights Case Law Analyser  is a website which contains cases on human rights of African countries in English and French.

We have added this new resource to our Selected Internet Resources – International Law page and our International Human Rights guide.

BestCase Enhancements

BestCase is a database of Canadian case law which includes Canadian Criminal Cases and Dominion Law Reports. It will enhance the Print, Save and Email functions from December 6, 2010. More details will be available in the Print/Save/Email Options Section on the revised Help page.

Free Full-text Online Law Review/Law Journal Search Engine - ABA Legal Technology Resource Center

This free search engine searches the free full-text of over 350 online law reviews and law journals, as well as document repositories hosting academic papers and related publications such as Congressional Research Service reports. Several of the law reviews and legal journals (such as the Stanford Technology Law Review), working papers, and reports are available online only.

Law Reviews with Online Content - New York Law School

The New York Law School Mendik Library tracks about 150 law journals that supply, at minimum, their current issue freely available online

New Platform of JustCite

JustCite is an index database to UK and European legal information and case law. It has recently launched a new platform. You can find out more information on the new platform by looking at:

• The Quick Start Guide for the new platform; and
• A short video demonstration of the service.

New UK legislation Website

The Statute Law Database (SLD) and OPSI have been replaced by a new website Legislation.gov.uk
