Finnish China Law Center

The Lee Quo Wei Library has added the following resource to the People's Republic of China  webpage under the Selected Internet Resources.

The overall objective of the Center is to develop and coordinate research and education on Chinese law and legal culture in Finland. To that end the Center aims to provide and facilitate the circulation of high-quality research, education and expertise on Chinese law and legal culture among its members. In addition, the Center also strives to support the rule of law development in China through sharing Finnish, Nordic and European law and make it better known in China.

Chinese Legal Knowledge Integrated Database (中國法律知識資源總庫)

The library has newly subscribed to the database Chinese Legal Knowledge Integrated Database (中國法律知識資源總庫).  Chinese Legal Knowledge Integrated Database is a database of Chinese legislation, treaties, court judgments, journals and dissertations. It consists of three sub-databases which are Laws and Regulations Database, Court Cases Database, and Journals and Dissertations Database. It also provides cross searching function to search all these three sub-databases in one search. Materials and search interface are in  Chinese.

The coverage of the three sub-databases:

• Laws and Regulations Database includes PRC national and local laws and regulations since 1949. It also contains Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan laws and regulations and international treaties.
• Court Cases Database includes PRC cases since 1979
• Journals and Dissertations Database includes 128 law journals, as well as dissertations, conference papers and newspapers since 1979

The Gender Jurisprudence Collections (GJC) is a powerful database containing judgments, decisions, orders, and other relevant documents issued by international criminal courts and tribunals that have been coded and made readily searchable for issues relating to sexual and gender-based violence.

Subject Guides to Resources for Summer Term 2012/13

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library has uploaded "subject guides to resources" for Summer Term 2012/13 on its website. These guides include major resources, textbooks, law reports, journals etc., on these subjects to assist your legal research for these. We have made new enhancements for the subject guides for Term S:

1.    Direct Links to journal articles  – We have added the direct links to journal articles as far as we can to the subject guides. 2.    RSS Feeds under Current Awareness –We have added the available RSS Feeds to the publications under the Current Awareness section.

New Contents of the English Reports Library in HeinOnline

The Pre-1865 Law Reports have been added to the English Reports Library in HeinOnline.

The English Reports Library in HeinOnline consists of the English Reports (Full Reprint) which contains the reprints of more than 100,000 decisions of the English Courts from 1220 to 1867.

The recently added Pre-1865 Law Reports include nearly 350 volumes of law reports for England and Wales.  Topics cover bankruptcy and insolvency, controverted elections, railways, inventions, patents, etc.

The Pre-1865 Law Reports is available at the top of the English Reports Library homepage as a browse option. It provides the option to browse the reports by Title, Author or Date.

LexisHK Database Guide

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library has recently updated the LexisHK Database Guide. Lexis is one of the major legal databases and it has migrated to the new platform called LexisHK. LexisHK is the new interface for Lexis Hong Kong and Lexis international materials. It contains cases, legislation, commentaries, journals & news from HK, US, UK, PRC and other jurisdictions. The new interface allows us to access all subscribed contents (except Lexis CN ) via one single platform.

The Library has updated the LexisHK Database Guide to reflect the new changes of LexisHK.  This database guide serves as a quick start guide of the database LexisHK to show how to use Quick Search, Content Specific Search and My Bookshelf to find Hong Kong, UK and international legal materials. It also indicates the link to Lexis CN for searching Mainland China (PRC) legal materials. At the end of the database guide, we have provided the list of frequently used Terms and Connectors which would help you to retrieve relevant results among different sources of materials in LexisHK.

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library has recently created a new guide on brief comparison of major Chinese law databases which the library has subscribed to. The guide compares various Chinese law databases from several aspects:  Language, Scope & Major Content, Features, Major Strengths and Current Awareness Services. It aims to assist research process of Chinese legal research.

New Look: Subject Guides to Resources

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library has created “subject guides to resources" for courses in the LLB, JD/LLM and PCLL programmes every semester since 2008.  These guides include major resources, textbooks, law reports, journals etc., on the relevant subjects to assist legal research for that subject.

We have created a new template for these subject guides to resources for Term 2 2012/13 on the Law Library webpage for easy browsing and navigating.

New Additions to the Law Firm Pamphlet Collection

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library established the Law Firm Pamphlet Collection in 2008 to help students to know more about the law firms in Hong Kong and this Collection is also helpful for their career development. This Collection consists of up-to-date brochures or pamphlets of around 70 local and international law firms in Hong Kong.  This Collection is accessible at both of our service points:  the Lee Quo Weil Law Library at the CUHK Shatin main campus and the Legal Resources Centre at Admiralty.

An Overview of English Resources for Chinese Legal Research

This is an article written by John Bahrij, the Law Librarian of the Lee Quo Wei Law Library of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Lily Ko, an assistant librarian at the Lee Quo Wei Law Library.   It introduces resources which are published in English for Chinese law in print and electronic form for mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
